Family Therapy (Systemic)

A therapeutic approach to relationship problems which aims to ‘treat’ not just the individual alone but the family group whose dysfunction creates these very problems. This type of psychotherapy involves parents and all the children thus one or two generations together.

Salvador Minuchin, a psychiatrist and family therapist developed “structural family therapy”, proposed therapy sessions based on a transactional analysis concept: the family is a structure, a system of coalitions and transactions.

This therapy school also works on family myths and on the missions taken on by the various generations.

The goal is to :

- Understand our relationships with those close to us.
- Find the meaning of our relationships with others.

Jane Lovell-Taylor Marsh trained with John Byng Hall, a psychiatrist and family therapist at the London Tavistock Clinic, and with Salvador Minuchin, a psychiatrist and family therapist at the Philadelphia Child and Family Therapy Training Center.
